Multilingual Month’s Concert: Hadithi za Pwani: Stories from the Coast is interactive Swahili Storytelling Through Afro-jazz on 12 March at 10:00 at the Tikkurila Library.

Hadithi za Pwani – Stories from the Coast engages the themes of languages, stories, and diversity. The concert weaves Swahili call-and-response poetry, ancestral Tanzanian narratives, and contemporary Afro jazz into an accessible, participatory experience.

Swahili poetry and song lyrics are shared with translations, inviting audiences to vocalize rhythmic phrases and experience the language’s musicality firsthand. Each piece introduces a Tanzanian coastal tale explained in both English and Finnish, then interpreted through improvisation. The trio’s structure – two Tanzanian artists and one Finnish musician – embodies living cultural exchange, demonstrating how traditions can converse rather than exist separately.
