Multilingual Month book display at the National Library

The National Library of Finland participates in the Multilingual Month during March 2026 by creating an book display in the Rotunda that features literature about native language and multilingualism, and highlights our multilingual collection.

The National Library’s collections, with the exception of the National Collection, are very multilingual: in the Special Collections you can find individual books in less common languages such as Swahili, Ainu, Greenlandic or American indigenous languages, as well as a wider selection of books in Japanese, Hebrew, Dutch, Latin, Greek, Esperanto, Farsi and Chinese, among others. The language selection of the Slavonic Library covers literature from Slovak to Slovenian and Bulgarian to Polish.

The new material selected for our collections has a strong representation of key Western languages, Finnish, Swedish, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc., as well as Slavic languages. Research literature is mainly acquired in the original language.

In March, the book display in the Rotunda will feature selected items from our Humanities Collection. Books can be borrowed with a National Library card and are available for home loan. You can find the collections of the National Library of Finland in our search service.
